The Les Miserables star takes the baton from Mila Kunis, who was the female lead in the first movie. Deadline reports Kunis, whose character Lori Collins married Mark Wahlberg's John Bennett at the end of the first film, will either return for a tiny role or not appear at all in the sequel. Seyfried's character and storyline remain unknown.

Wahlberg will reprise his role as 30-something grown man-child Bennett, along with his lovable foul-mouthed teddy bear BFF Ted (voiced by MacFarlane). The first film broke box-office records in 2012, grossing close to $550 million worldwide. MacFarlane will once again produce, write and costar in the sequel.

According to the site, Seyfried replacing Kunis in the lead female role was simply a creative direction taken by director MacFarlane. Kunis, who voices Meg in the comedian's hit animated series Family Guy, still remains close with MacFarlane.

Like Kunis, Seyfried already has experience working with MacFarlane on a feature film. The blonde Mean Girls actress stars in MacFarlane's upcoming movie, A Million Ways to Die in the West, opposite Liam Neeson, Charlize Theron, and Neil Patrick Harris. Her last major movie role was in the Linda Lovelace biopic, Lovelace.
