Viewers who tuned in to American Idol's 80s-themed performance round Wednesday got a glimpse of Top 8 singers Skylar Laine and Colton Dixon's undeniable chemistry when the pair came together for a duet of "Islands in the Stream," but fans need not read too much into their close bond.

"Me and Colton aren't dating!" Laine, 18, told Us Weekly backstage after the show. Though Idol host Ryan Seacrest played into Twitter rumors of a romance, commenting on their chemistry after the performance, Laine insists that dating her competitor would be "kind of weird."

So what's it really like hanging out with Dixon, who earned a standing ovation for his version of Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time?"
"I love him. He's one of my best friends and I…nah!" says Laine of 20-year-old Dixon. "Not that he isn't a cutie! Of course he's a cutie!"
