Grab the tissues! Apple’s adorable, emotional new holiday ad may be the biggest tearjerker yet.
Called “The Song,” the ad tugs at the heartstrings, adding a sentimental aspect to the ever-evolving consumer products. “With a Mac, iPhone or iPad you have the power to create thoughtful, emotional gifts and memories that transcend time,” Apple writes in a caption accompanying the video. “It could be a movie, a homemade card or a song that brings two generations closer together.”
Coming in at a minute and a half, the commercial opens with a young woman sitting on a carpeted floor, sorting through records. She comes across one particular envelope, which features old photographs and a smaller Voice-O-Graph record.
Dated Dec. 4, 1952, the record reads “From: Valerie. To: Raymond With Love.”
As the young woman plays the vintage record, a woman’s voice is heard saying, “My darling Raymond, though you can’t be here for the holidays, we’ll always be together in my heart.” A rendition of the jazz standard “Love Is Here to Stay,” which has been recorded by the likes of Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and Billie Holiday, follows.
The young listener gets some inspiration, transferring the record to her Mac computer to create a gift for the original singer, her grandmother. See how she records a decades-spanning duet in the video above!
