Avatar Knocked Out of Top Box Office Spot

Avatar was knocked out of the top spot at the box office this weekend after reigning for seven weeks.

Amanda Seyfried and Channing Tatum's love story, Dear John (an adaptation of a Nicholas Sparks book of the same name), was No. 1 with $32.4 million in earnings.

Avatar, which banked $26.3 million, is still breaking records. It has earned $631 million in North America since its December open -- beating director James Cameron's prior record with Titanic. (Although Titanic topped the box office for 17 consecutive weeks.)

The Sci-fi flick is nominated for nine Oscars, including best picture and best director.

Good that movie was so not living up to the hype, i saw it, it was good, but its one i dont think i would ever watch again. a GOOD 2 1/2 hour movie DOESNT feel like a 2 1/2 hour movie and this one felt like 3!

It is so ironic that James Cameron beat his own record. But Titanic is a much better movie than Avatar, and it could very well reclaim the #1 spot once it gets re-released in 3D.
