‘Big Bang Theory’ Boss: Sheldon’s Engagement Ring for Amy ‘Will Come Up Again’

Jim Parsons, Mayim Bialik

First comes sex, then comes marriage? Big Bang Theory fans rejoiced when Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy (Mayim Bialik) finally lost their virginities to each other in the CBS sitcom's December 17 episode. But is an even bigger milestone on the horizon for the adorkable twosome?

Big Bang Theory showrunner Steven Molaro told Entertainment Tonight that Sheldon's family's engagement ring will resurface in a future episode. It was revealed in the season 8 finale earlier this year that Sheldon had been keeping the bling in his desk with plans to ask Amy to marry him, but things fell apart for the pair before he could pop the question.

"At some point in the near future, it will come up again," Molaro said about the ring. "It's not going to immediately, but we certainly have not forgotten about it."

Parsons, for his part, doesn't think fans should necessarily hold their breath for the show to make another trip down the altar. Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco) got hitched during the season 9 premiere in September.

When asked whether he anticipates Sheldon and Amy tying the knot, the 42-year-old actor told ET, "I would say no, but I didn't think that we'd be filming [the sex scene]."

The Big Bang Theory airs on CBS Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET.
