Cameron Diaz is making her musical debut! The actress has been cast to play brutal orphanage headmistress Miss Hannigan in the upcoming movie remake of the musical Annie, Deadline reports. Academy Award winner Sandra Bullock had been in talks to tackle the role, though she reportedly rejected the role in mid-June. Miss Hannigan was perhaps most memorably played by Carol Burnett in the 1982 film.
Diaz, 40, will star opposite Quvenzhane Wallis, 9, who earned an Oscar nomination for her role in Beasts of the Southern Wild. Jamie Foxx will play Daddy Warbucks in the film, which is being directed by Will Gluck (Easy A, Friends With Benefits). Will Smith and Jay-Z are producing Annie, slated for release on Dec. 25, 2014.
Willow Smith was previously attached to play the titular role before Wallis took over. Glee's Jane Lynch recently played Miss Hannigan on Broadway.
