Adios, Charlie Sheen! After more than three decades in show business, the 47-year-old actor will use his birth name, Carlos Estevez, in director Robert Rodrigeuz's upcoming movie Machete Kills.
Ironically, the Anger Management star admitted he hasn't fully embraced his Spanish heritage during a 2012 Univision interview. "I don't wake up feeling Latino. I'm a white guy in America," he explained. "I was born in New York and grew up in Malibu."
"I wish I spoke more Spanish. I'm sure I can learn, but there hasn't been a lot of time lately," Charlie added. "It was never a part of my life growing up. My parents never infused it into our household."
The former Two and a Half Men star asked to be called Charlie at age 4 to avoid being confused with his uncle, who shares his first name. "We would both respond to the name Carlos, so I changed my name," the actor explained.
Charlie's famous father, Martin Sheen, was born Ramon Antonio Gerardo Estevez. The Apocalypse Now actor changed his name when he moved to Hollywood. "I invented Martin Sheen," he explained on Inside the Actors Studio in 2003. "I've never changed my name; it's still Estevez officially."
