These are two dangerous women! Christina Aguilera teamed up with fellow vocal powerhouse, Ariana Grande, for an unforgettable duet on the finale show for The Voice‘s 10th season on Tuesday, May 24.
And while Aguilera’s previously planned duet with a hologram of the late Whitney Houston was pulled from the show at the last minute (after Houston’s family decided the hologram was not good enough quality), fans of the “Dirrty” diva were not left disappointed, as she and superfan Grande literally brought the house down with their powerful performance.
It was a huge night for Aguilera, who not only got to perform live, but also came away as the victorious coach after her mentee, Alisan Porter, snagged the series-winner prize.
Talking to reporters including Us Weekly after the show, Aguilera, 35, said her win (the first one for a female coach in the show’s 10-series history) means a huge amount to her.
“It’s been a boys club since season one, and I’m not one that hides my feelings or my opinions,” she said. “But I just have to say what it really proves to me this season by her taking that stage as a hardworking mom, with this gorgeous voice, because there are double standards out there, and sometimes it’s not all fair, but tonight is a true victory for women and women that work hard and women that are mothers,” she said.
“You had your work cut out for you and you did it, babe,” she added, turning to Porter. “I love you. I’m proud of you.”
