Oops!

Grammy winner Christina Aguilera performed the National Anthem at Sunday's Super Bowl XLV in Texas, flubbing the lyrics to Francis Scott Key's "The Star-Spangled Banner."

Singing the tune live, Aguilera, 30, was four lines into her rendition when she sang the words "what so proudly we watched" instead of the correct lyrics, "o'er the ramparts we watched." (Watch a clip above)

"I have been performing the anthem since I was seven years old and I must say the Super Bowl is a dream come true," Aguilera has said of earning the honor to perform during Sunday's showdown against the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers. "I am really excited to be part of such an iconic event."

Chad good for you...no one cares if you memorized it at the age of 6! Leave her alone! And isnt Christina Aguilera known for signing loudly and awesome!! She was probably very nervous and forgot the lyrics! I would to! And at least she went on with the song instead of quitting.

Christina Aguilera, is this Christina Aguilera Tour going to get cancelled like the last one? How about Las Vegas? Isn't there a casino open to letting Christina Aguilera sing on stage? Thomas Chi Author PresidentSarah.Net

Maybe the real problem is that you people are singing this anthem in a game. It is just that: a game, and you are using the national anthem for just a game. That is real problem. Save your national anthem to patriotic events and not for games. Take it more seriously!

When are you going to post a correction and apology to Sarah Palin for reporting that she attacked Christiana Aguilera when she didn't?

I think all of you should stop judging and criticizing. Yes, she messed up the lyrics and I'm sure she will remember it forever, but she is human as we all are. As far as some ppls comments on her singing it traditionally well when diff ppl sing a song each one guaranteed will sing it differently, if it was meant to be sung the same way always they would ask the same ppl or person and how boring would that be! Entertainers have their own signature style and vocals such as Faith Hilll, Shania Twain, Whitney Houston, Beyonce etc. all of whom have sung the National Anthem according to their American Tradition! Get over it!

She didn't know the lyrics and she sure didn't know the melody. Seems like the anthem is delegated to the loser of the year status. In essance it's called tin ear..

For all of you who are so overly critical of this very talented vocalist, if you have even 1/2 of her ability or experience, go audition and see if you can pull it off better. It was one performance in the scope of a very remarkable career. Get over it!

Stacy... I feel sorry for you if you truly believe that, or feel that way. I must sadly say that she sounded almost as bad as Rosanne Arnold, with all that ridiculous pitching that went all over any scale imaginable. You're right... no one is perfect, but Jesus... it's our NATIONAL ANTHEM. Sing it (don't murder it with gaudy vocals) and for God's sake, memorize the words (which I did at the age of 6).

I felt bad for her, but if Christina just sang the song instead of showing off, then she would have been fine. George Vreeland Hill

I'm not American, but I know the tune of the Star Spangled Banner. I didn't recognise it though because I couldn't hear what the tune was!

Everyone makes mistakes, no one is perfect. Maybe we should all remember that. Christina sang beautifully. It gave me chills.

Aguilera is nothing much than a spoiled little horny rich girl, that could care less about national patriotism, what's sad is the fact that this horny talent-less over paid little person is the role model to many little girls that don't know any better, please stop making excuses for this drunk, the real fact is that she showed up reeking like vodka from the night before and her eyes were blood shot red, I am surprised that she was able to stand up straight for that long...AND THAT IS THE REAL TRUTH!!

What is wrong with the singers nowdays when they have to murder all songs with those horribble worblings, like this one did. By forgetting the words on top of that worbling was just awful. I sure do not want to hear another sound from this awful performer. There is such a thing as respecting the musicians talent, who wrote the melody and when these idiots try to make something else out of it, , they fall flat on their faces and I turn it all off. Who wants to hear some mutilated music by bad performers. Not me.

I am not a "Hater"....and no...as one person said..."I didn't see anyone else up there singing.." BUT...NO one else was asked to...was given this high honor to sing a song that honors our country. What an honor...and then to sing it with her own little spin...AND mess up the words. I don't believe was just nerves....how often does this woman sing in front of huge audiences...?!?! It was mainly the "spin" she gave the song that I see as wrong. As someone else has said...the national anthem is the national anthem....PERIOD...to be sung as written.

    oh gosh a terrible singer

  • February 07, 2011 - 2:59pm Susanne Stockman-Murphy

Beautiful wpman with beautiful voice, still gave me chills, and as a singer, she recovered pretty well, we all should know the words in our hearts anyway, I enjoyed hearing her anyway!
