Kathryn has met her match! The Cruel Intentions TV reboot has found its Annette Hargrove. The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Drop Dead Diva alum Kate Levering will take on the role, which was originally played by Reese Witherspoon.

As previously reported, NBC has ordered a pilot for a sequel series to the 1999 romantic drama. Sarah Michelle Gellar will return as the ruthless Kathryn Merteuil.

“I think it’s awesome. I think there are so many great stories to tell,” Gellar, 38, told Us Weekly of the small-screen revival, before she announced her involvement. “Roger Kumble [who wrote and directed the film] is at the helm, and anything Roger does is great. And they are great characters, so why shouldn’t their story be told?”

Witherspoon, 39, for her part, is keeping busy with other projects. She will next appear in the HBO limited series Big Little Lies.

Cruel Intentions also starred Selma Blair (Cecile Caldwell) and Ryan Phillippe (Sebastian Valmont). The reboot will pick up 15 years after the film left off. According to THR, it will also star Taylor John Smith as Sebastian and Annette’s son, Bash Casey.
