Move over, Angie. Daisy Ridley is in talks to take over the role of Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot.
The English actress, 23, confirmed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that there “have been conversations,” but said she hasn’t been offered the part and there is no script yet.
“I’m waiting for someone to say ‘I want you, let’s do it,'” Ridley told THR.
The Hollywood newcomer certainly knows how to kick butt on the big screen. Ridley played heroine and leading lady Rey in J.J. Abrams‘ latest blockbuster smash, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. She’s currently filming Star Wars: Episode VIII in Ireland.
Ridley opened up to Us Weekly earlier this month about the sweet reception she’s received from Star Wars fans.
“It’s very nice that people have been so nice, but it’s also good to go straight back on set — because we have work to do,” she told Us at the Jameson Empire Awards. “I think none of us went into the film thinking, ‘Oh my God we’re going to win all these awards.’ But it’s obviously wonderful. It’s like the cherry on top.”
Ridley’s costar John Boyega (Finn) thinks she’d be perfect to play the fierce Croft. “I played Tomb Raider the game, it’s a new take and I think the movies are going to be based on that version,” Boyega, 24, told THR. “But I texted Daisy [and] was like, ‘This is you!’ and ‘You need to get on that because you could be Lara Croft.’ She should be.”
If Ridley lands the part, she will be following in Angelina Jolie‘s footsteps. The mom of six, 40, played the character in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003).
