And the third contestant to go home on this season's Dancing with the Stars is...

Kristin Cavallari!

The reality star, 24, was unexpectedly the star sent home on Tuesday night's shocking elimination. Although the Hills alum garnered a respectable 24 out of 30 possible judges' points on Monday for her sexy "Crazy in Love" samba with partner Mark Ballas, it evidently wasn't enough to move viewers to call in.

Cavallari, the judges, surviving dancers and the audience all gasped when her name was called. "I'm a little surprised, to be honest," she admitted to co-host Brooke Burke Charvet. "It's been such a great time. You know, it is what it is!"

Surviving another week was fellow bottom two dancer Hope Solo; like Cavallari, the soccer player also scored a 24 for her own sexy cha-cha with Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

Before Cavallari's name was called, judge Len Goodman admitted he never expected her and Solo to be up for elimination so early in the game.

"This is truly crazy!" he said. "My expecations was that these two couples would be fihting in the finals. This is week three and one of these is going home. It's madness!"

On Monday, it looked like Chaz Bono or Nancy Grace could be headed home: Bono scored lowest with just 18 for rhumba to his late father Sonny Bono's "Laugh at Me." Grace followed with a slow-moving waltz the judges gave 21 points. Carson Kressley, who rounded out the bottom three on Tuesday, received Monday's third-lowest score of 23 with a rousing, crowd-pleasing tango to No Doubt's "It's My Life."

not that surprising if you think about it... the show is not about who dances more professionally, you go to other shows to watch that and there's nobody on dwts to qualify as a pro dancer anyway... it's about giving an opportunity to the public to watch their favourite stars learn something really difficult and challenge themselves with the result being considerably less important than the process... it is the stars we want to watch go through this ordeal week in, week out, who are going to get the public votes... i personally find it interesting on many levels to watch chaz' adventure and his personality play out on the show while i normally flip the channel when either kristin, hope and a few others are on... the show is going to increase the audiences if chaz perseveres because it's the main 'story' on the show this season... judges seem to forget frequently that they are not judging a professional contest and their marks often do not reflect the stars' individual progress, which is wrong for this show... public gets it better and that's when you see discrepancy between the judges and the vote... they need to change judges from time to time to make them question their methodologies every season and not loose the sight of the big picture...

Andy i agree with you 100billion % , Love! :) and Tammy Lynn, the reason the show just MIGHT loose ratings is this: wen kristin went off the laguna beach ride ( you can all take that how ever you want, but we all know what kind of girl she is ) , some idiot put the most evil, mean, cruelest girl on a new reality show ( a NEW ONE?! you DONT say! ) --something about giving less fortunate people the party of their dreams, you know, an expensive dress, an amazing venue, cool-A$$ invites, all their friends and family, some AWESOME gift bags, and is ALL free, and ALL for THEM :) ...only problem? the HOST, K-Cav, like K-Fed... the show was cancelled after ONE episode, and wen she came on the hills, wat happened? RATING DROPPED...immediatly! (maybe it was LC's leaving ..BUT..) then hills was over, spencer and sexy- surgery-robot have no $$, and NOW this tool is OFF DWTS.... ive never even seen it.. i like shows like futurama, simpsons, family guy, true life, supernanny, american dad, adult swim, worlds most shocking videos.. the news,

If I hear: "it is what it is" one more freakin' time ... I swear I'm going to do something - know what I'm sayin'???

  • October 05, 2011 - 2:36pm Sarah Squires

Chastity Bono cannot dance at all.

  • October 05, 2011 - 2:00pm Pat Bruemmer

People vote from their hearts..not because of the talent but because they recognizea celebrity from some other time. In this case, Chaz Bono..people remember Chaz as Chastity, the adorable little girl from the Sonny & Cher Show. While Cavallari - I personally wouldn't know her if she walked up and introduced herself to me. She is a "reality" star - that is a very limited type of celebrity, much like Pais Hilton - here today, forgotten tomorrow. As for Mark Ballast - he's a terrific dancer. He and Derek, as old friends, compete against each other and unfortunately, Mark usually loses. He's a great dancer, He did nohing wrong - and neither did Cavallari. The audience just knew Chaz better. Cavallari's agent should have warned her.

She was great! I am super suprised she went home.

The word for this show is----SHOCKED! Apparently this is another Political Show.... They were both toooo good to be sent home.!!!! I will not be watching this show again until they can be fair to the people and the public when judging these contestants......

she danced so good Monday, i was sad to see her go last nite!

  • October 05, 2011 - 11:37am Susan Calamia

Of course Cavallari should not have been eliminated last night! The one who should have been eliminated is Chaz Bono; he has NO RHYTHM. So sad that people just vote for who they like instead of who has talent and can dance...

  • October 05, 2011 - 10:41am Victoria Owens-Homuth

I honestly think the only reason she went home is because Mark Ballas is a self-absorbed jerk. People are tired of his "all about me" choreography. If he tried to actually showcase her talents rather than his own, maybe she would have had a chance. And let's face it, she wasn't very good. I'm a dancer and it always bothered me that her legs and feet were always terrible. I will say however, that Chaz should have gone home. Of course he never will because of politics, but I think we can all agree he is the worst dancer.

Of course it's a popularity contest, that's why the fans get to vote along with the judges and it's the basis of the show. So why complain when something like this happens? Chaz did the least of the dancers but I suspect he will remain one more week to see if Cher is in the audience. As for Kristin and Mark, Mark has gotten a little too full of himself in the last few seasons. Kristin was a better dancer but she is totally unlikable, an example of which saying Len gives bad marks just because he can. And while her dancing was above average, it still was not that great. Let's face it, Mark and Kristin may have been better dancers but they were not that popular and just simply didn't get the votes.

They are keeping Bono on because its political now,if they vote him off it looks like they are getting rid of him because of his sex change. He cant dance worth a hoot.

  • October 05, 2011 - 10:09am Chandra Jordan

Not shocked at all actually. People think that viewers vote on dancing ability alone and they don't. Fact is, she was not uber popular and her reputation coming into this season wasn't the greatest. People vote for who they like, not who the best dancer was week to week.

  • October 05, 2011 - 10:08am Gena Fisher

No one even knows who she is. I've never seen her before. She was pretty good, but there are people more entertaining - like Carson!

  • October 05, 2011 - 9:45am Ashley Harrison

Once they said Chaz was safe, I was thinking it might be David.... I was a little shocked to see Kristen get the boot, but this IS a popularity contest, right?

  • October 05, 2011 - 6:12am Becky Dowling

Of course most the votes are done on popularity, always was, as is American Idol. I thought J.R. had the most emotional story, and Ricki Lake had the best dancing by far. I didn't care all that much for Kristens dance, I didn't feel the emotion. Nancy and Chaz I believe dance wise did the least best, but I could see the emotion. The voting system is not fair on any of these shows, voting a zillion times allowed etc.

Keep the public vote out of the competition!! It is obviously a popularity contest and not a dance contest. Let the judges decide who goes home based on performance instead of combining the scores from the judges and the public. A tie breaker for the bottom scores should be settled by a dance-off.

  • October 05, 2011 - 12:18am Ralph Willett

Contest..... not any more, just have the judges go home and let the popularity begin. Dancing was fund, but not anymore......
