Let the countdown (sadly) begin! David Letterman's final Late Show episode will air on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, CBS announced on Dec. 10.
"David Letterman has given to all of us a remarkable legacy of achievement and creative brilliance that will never be forgotten," CBS president and CEO Leslie Moonves said in a statement. "It's going to be tough to say goodbye, but I know we will all cherish the shows leading up to Dave's final broadcast in May."
Letterman, 67, revealed back in April that he would be stepping down from his late-night hosting gig after 31 years. "We don't have the timing of this precisely down. It will be, I think, at least a year or so, but sometime in the not-too-distant future — 2014," he said at the time. "For the love of God — Paul [Shaffer] and I will be wrapping things up and taking a hike."
Just days later, it was confirmed that another funnyman would be taking his place — Stephen Colbert. "I'm thrilled and grateful that CBS chose me," the Colbert Report host, 50, said. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go grind a gap in my front teeth."
