E!’s newest social experiment/reality show, Famously Single, is only one episode in and sparks are already flying! The premiere on Tuesday, June 14, brought us fascinating insights into the psyche of celeb dating, screaming matches, and most importantly: the origin story of Aubrey O’Day and DJ Pauly D’s storybook romance.
The episode started off with a quick intro of our cast of characters as they settled into the loft apartment that they’ll be living in for the remainder of the season. The familiar famous faces include Brandi Glanville (of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills), Jessica White (supermodel), Aubrey O’Day (singer, Danity Kane), Somaya Reece (Love & Hip Hop), Calum Best (British TV personality/model), Josh Murray (winner of Andi Dorfman‘s heart on season 10 of The Bachelorette), Willis McGahee (former NFL player), and last but certainly not least, Paul DelVecchio (a.k.a. DJ Pauly D from Jersey Shore).
Brandi Says Calum ‘Banged’ All Her Friends
The first notable interaction took place when Brandi reminded Calum that they had met before. The British hunk didn’t seem to recall it and said, “I can’t even remember yesterday.” The former Real Housewife told the camera that they used to model together in Europe and added, “He’s basically banged all my friends.” Considering that clips from upcoming episodes hint at a hookup between the two, this should be interesting!
Aubrey Says Current Beau Pauly D Has ‘No Substance’
When the group started their first challenge, a “speed dating” get-to-know-you exercise, Aubrey was not feeling it with her current beau, DJ Pauly D. The Danity Kane singer said in a confessional, “There isn’t a lot of substance there and honestly I’m not interested.” Guess it wasn’t love at first sight!
Aubrey and Somaya Slam Brandi
Things were already off to a shaky start between the ladies when Brandi bragged about packing her vibrators and lingerie. Somaya said to the camera, “She’s a basic chick; she’s very mediocre.” Aubrey echoed the sentiment when she said, “I had to reduce my mind a lot to converse with her.” Oh, the shade!
Somaya Calls Brandi a ‘Dumb Bitch’
Later that night, after a few rounds of shots at a nightclub, the group started to let loose. The group therapist, Dr. Darcy Sterling, had secretly arranged for undercover dating coaches to interact with the celebrities and note their behavior. After Pauly starting making fun of a man for his pink shirt and loafer shoes, Somaya stepped in to ask the rosy-shirted gentleman to leave.
Brandi immediately took offense at this and launched a full-scale, in-your-face screaming match with the Love & Hip Hop star. When Brandi started screaming that the singer was being “disrespectful,” Somaya clapped back saying, “You’re talking really loud … you’re acting like a dumb bitch.”
Brandi Disses Somaya and Says She’s Not Famous
Back at the house when Brandi tried to apologize, it only seemed to make things worse. Somaya said, “I can’t f–k with you,” and Brandi followed up with, “I’m sorry if you think you’re famous, I don’t even know who the f–k you are.” Ouch!
Josh Opens Up About His Split With Andi
The next day in group therapy we got to hear from Josh about his split with his former fiancée and Bachelorette star, Andi Dorfman. The hunky entrepreneur said of his made-for-TV romance, “I was engaged last year but we were very different in some very important ways to me, and I kind of prolonged the relationship instead of ending it when I should have.”
Will these stars actually find love? Who knows, but it’s clear that this show will not disappoint in the drama department. In a clip from an upcoming episode we see Aubrey harping on Pauly about whether he loves her or not, and if that’s not a reason to keep watching this show obsessively, we don’t know what is!
