And the nominees are…

MTV announced the nominations for the 2011 Video Music Awards late Wednesday, with music's hottest females leading the pack.

Earning a whopping nine nods -- largely for her Teenage Dream album -- Katy Perry is the year's most nominated star. "Rolling in the Deep" singer Adele followed close behind with nominations in seven categories, including Video of the Year and Best Female Video.

To vote for your favorites, fans can log onto MTV.com and make their voice heard. The trophies will be handed out live from Los Angeles on August 28.
