‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Recap: Five Most Shocking Moments for Meredith & Co. — April Moves On!

Grey Sloan Memorial is on the mend. On Grey’s Anatomy‘s Thursday, November 3, episode, Owen and Amelia continued to fight, April tried to move on from Jackson and a surprise visitor came to make a big change to the hospital. Watch Us Weekly‘s video recap above and read on for the five most shocking moments:

1. A potential new staffer’s arrival shook up the staff

Bailey (Chandra Wilson) brought on a doctor named Eliza (Marika Dominczyk) to observe the hospital and give advice on how to improve their residency program. When she arrived, all of the doctors feared that they were getting fired.

“They’re gonna overhaul the program because I beat up DeLuca,” Alex (Justin Chambers) said to Meredith (Ellen Pompeo). When she disagreed and argued that not everything was about him, he bluntly explained: “A teacher beat up a student.” Meredith quickly replied: “Oh, that makes sense.” What are friends for, right?

In the operating room, Eliza forced the surgeons to let their interns take charge, which ended up helping everyone involved. Maggie (Kelly McCreary) admitted to Chief Webber (James Pickens Jr.) that she realized because of Eliza that her teaching skills could use some work. “Her system works,” Maggie admitted. “She’s an ass, but she’s right.”

2. Amelia finally told Owen the truth

Owen (Kevin McKidd) and Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) fought all day at work over who made them late, what to do in surgery and everything in between. At the end of the day, their argument came to a boiling point, and Amelia admitted to Owen that she doesn’t want to have a baby. Amelia went to Meredith’s house, and Alex tried to stop her from coming in because he assumed she hadn’t told Owen about her secret baby who passed away. When Amelia confessed that she told Owen, Alex simply said, “Take my room.”

3. April started dating

In case the brutal beat-downs, mysterious pasts and complicated love triangles distracted you from the fact that these doctors are #fun and #hip, April (Sarah Drew) joined Tinder! Yes, just when things were finally starting to go well between her and the baby daddy she’s still in love with, she started swiping. But this is Grey’s, so it’s likely no one will express their feelings on this for at least another 7-12 episodes.

April told current roommate, ex-husband and current father of their child (it’s simple, really) that she was going on the date. Jackson (Jesse Williams) seemed uncomfortable with the fact that April was on Tinder, so she called him out for also being on Tinder because she found him on the app. Then, to really drive the point home that she was not here for his games, she uttered those three little words no one should ever hear: “I swiped left.”

April later told Jackson that the date was horrible and asked him, “How do you do this?” After advising her to keep dating (can people on this show please stop telling people they love to go on dates? Looking at you, Meredith), he offers this mildly nauseating piece of encouragement: “You’ve got good instincts, kid.” Life hack: If someone birthed your kid, please do not call them kid.

4. Eliza maybe (possibly) (probably) hit on Arizona

After the surgeons found Eliza’s notebook with a list of their names, Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) was upset that she’s not on it, thinking that means Eliza ranked her low on her list. Arizona later confronted Eliza in the elevator and asked her why she wasn’t on the list while also accidentally admitting that they snooped through Eliza’s notebook. Minor details. “Arizona Robbins, that name attached to that face,” Eliza said. “That’s not one you forget.”

5. Bailey doubted her choice

As Webber and the surgeons struggled to adapt to Eliza’s new way of running things, Bailey wondered if she was doing the right thing by her staff. After a day of fighting with Bailey about the overhaul of his program, Webber admitted that he wanted Eliza to take the job and that they would be a solid team, which sounds great, except that Eliza had told Bailey seconds before that she would only come to the hospital if she were to work alone, explaining, “I am the authority.”
