Fonzworth Bentley has been a dear friend of mine since he chastised me for not wearing a pocket square at the BET Awards seven years ago, just as he was handing his pink slip to Diddy (the umbrella holder position has never been filled by anyone even close to as debonair) to launch his own music career.
I was also there when he made a megasplash at the 2006 Fashion Rocks in New York City alongside Kanye and stole the whole show right out from under his mentor -- and everyone else! And yes: That's also him in Outkast's "Roses" video, hosting the MTV hit From G's to Gents and on the arm of longtime girlfriend, actress Faune Chambers (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button).
I am happy to report Bentley's still very much in the game as he still toils away with Yeezy on his debut album -- and as evidenced on a new club banger he just dropped with one of New York's finest, singer O'Neal McKnight, called "Something Bout Tonight." I don't dig the passe auto-tune at this point...but I do dig the excitement of the two of them sparring vocals over the bouyant beat.
Kanye, Diddy, Cassie and others have already shouted out the track via Tweets and blog posts. What do you think? Unnecessary vocal effects aside, it's full of sexy swagger. Check it out here.
