He’s a man of tradition.
Before Bachelor Ben Higgins proposed to his fiancée while taping the Bachelor finale last November, he called the woman’s father to ask for permission, an insider reveals in the new issue of Us Weekly. (So as not to spoil the outcome of the ABC series’ March 14 finale, Us is not revealing whether the winner is carefree real-estate developer Jojo Fletcher or bubbly flight attendant Lauren Bushnell.) The blessing received, Higgins, 26, “cried out and pumped his fist in the air,” says the insider.
The Denver resident’s excitement only grew when his would-be bride arrived at the seaside proposal spot in Jamaica. “Ben told her she’s the most beautiful woman and he wants to wake up next to her every morning,” says the insider. “She said, ‘I’m the luckiest girl!’”
Software sales rep Higgins dropped to one knee and offered her a 3-carat emerald-cut diamond set in platinum (worth $100,000!) from celeb-beloved jeweler Neil Lane. After she accepted, Higgins literally whisked his fiancée off her feet and carried her away. Continues the insider, “She joked that if Ben dropped her, she would be upset.”
That emotion came later. As Us previously reported, Higgins told the winner postfinale that he also said “I love you” to the runner-up. “She was angry and sad,” says the show source.
Nevertheless, Higgins is confident the worst is behind them. He recently told Us, “We continue to move forward because we continue to communicate. I know I have found true love.”
