James Franco couldn't wait to get out of there.

After the star severely disappointed many fans and critics as co-host of Sunday's Academy Awards, Franco bailed on his own after-party, held at L.A.'s The Writer's Room.

While a few stars -- Seth Rogen, Kevin Spacey and stars of the CW's 90210 showed up -- Franco, 32, was a no-show, a source confirms to UsMagazine.com.

The Writer's Room bash, the insider adds, was a "bust."

Indeed, Franco immediately boarded an NYC-bound plane following the ceremony -- posting pics from his brand-new Twitter account.

"Goodbye L.A.," he scrawled across one pic, in which the 127 Hours actor, still in a tux, sips what appears to be a Bloody Mary. "It was fun! Time to head back to class."

(The multitasking hunk is famously a student at both NYU and Yale.)

Sniped The Hollywood Reporter of Franco's stint co-hosting alongside Anne Hathaway: "The 83rd Annual Academy Awards will likely be remembered as the night James Franco couldn't act like a host...Anne Hathaway at least tried to sing and dance and preen along to the goings on, but Franco seemed distant, uninterested and content to keep his Cheshire-cat-meets-smug smile on display throughout."

Complaining that Franco and Hathaway suffered from an "absence of chemistry," the New York Times said: "Mr. Franco looked a little distracted and even blase -- not surprisingly for a multiplatform performer-writer who is working on an English doctorate at Yale."

Article is incorrect. He is no longer at NYU. He got a D in an acting course. He is, however, still at Yale, and apparently at the Rhode Island School of Design?? It's not really clear...the only thing I can tell about James recently is that he's become a master of misinformation...he needs to pick one or two things and stick with those...he's spreading himself out so much he's not doing anything very well.

I fell right to sleep. For the first time ever I did not need to take NyQuil.

James Franco in drag? Way to keep it classy, Oscars. Check out the most awkward moments from the youngest/worst hosts in history @imeanwhat http://bit.ly/ghM0xL

I think James Franco did an Excellent Job as well as Anne Hathaway.. I thought they were both quite entertaining.. I thought they had a lot of Chemistry together.. I thought they were a little nervous but who wouldn't be.. I thought He was Great s Mariyln Monroe and Anne has quite a Voice.. Cut Him some slack.. I really enjoyed the Oscars.. It was Youthful, warm and Fun and Entertaining...

@Elizabeth Aspen - he's a movie star who happens to be playing a role on General Hospital. He was in movies well before GH. Cut the guy some slack. Combine his hectic schedule with probably some nerves, I'd love to see some of you people do that live... WITHOUT any retakes!

It was soooo boring. They complained that the Ricky Gervais was too controversial but at least he was entertaining. I think Anne tried to hard. The Oscars are fun to watch when the host makes fun of actors and Hollywood. Billy Crystal, Chris Rock. I would love to have Ricky Gervais host the Oscars.

I would love to see Ricky Gervais, John Stewart, Paul Mooney and Steve Harvey host the Oscars together.

He's not a soap actor who 'lucked out'. He's a TV/movie actor who appeared on a soap last year and briefly this year. (and again later this year, apparently!) ABC interviewed him ahead of time...I thought he was nervous...but when the show was on, I couldn't tell if he was nervous or bored to tears??? I thought the whole thing was painful to watch. (although I did like the beginning when they were 'in' the nominated movies...that was funny)

He reminds me of Charlie Sheen with his arrogance and holier-than-thou attitude. Just like Charlie, his karma's coming and he'll be sorry then. I'm sick of these celebrities who think they walk on water. I mean, come on, dude, you're a soap actor who lucked out.

Yeah, Christina, maybe he had his other acting job at General Hospital on his mind....he did look uncomfortable but i thought he held it together. He could have at least acted like he really wanted to be there because now he's probably never going to do a hosting gig again. James what happened?! But Anne was great and all her dresses were sensational. I thought overall the show was more entertaining than usual.

He looked bored and annoyed. I think they both did a crappy job hosting the Oscars. He looked like he wanted to get the hell outta there, and she was just making a fool of herself.

Billy Crystal was awesome as the host for many years. They need to just have one person. These two were not great together.

James is working on his doctorate right now, he is probably feeling a bit too frazzled or overwhelmed with coursework at the moment to give it his best.

Hosting these things must be terribly difficult. I think these celebs feel it's a piece of cake. But, keeping millions entertained during an already boring event is hard work. At least he will entertain on General Hospital this week. :)

He looked annoyed and aggrivated, and he looks like he just wanted to get the hell outta dodge, and did u see his facial expressions on stage, standing next to Anne Hathaway, he looked like he couldn't get away from her fast enough!!! He's probably thinking "Get this annoying BI*CH away from me" hahaahahahaa
