After playing a prostitute in the Lifetime flick The Client List (premiering tonight), Jennifer Love Hewitt understands what drives some women to the sell their bodies.
Hewitt, 31, says her character in the movie -- a mother and former small-town beauty queen -- is left with no other choice.

"Her husband has been injured and out of work; her massage therapy job has been phased out; her kids need braces and their house is about to be foreclosed," she said on Ryan Seacrest's KIIS-FM radio show Monday. "So she answers an ad in the paper for a massage therapy position."
Initially, her character likes the attention.
But "very quickly, her life sort of goes on a downward spiral, and I think she realizes that there was probably more of the attention she was getting than she needed," said the actress.

After doing the movie, Hewitt said she realized that the reason some women become prostitutes is "two-fold." Not only is it helping them survive tough economic times, "it's sort of helping them in their personal lives as well," she said.
Some women might not be getting the sexual attention they need at home and "are kind of going out and going, 'Well, we have needs just like men do, and if men can go out and get their needs met, we will too.'" she said. "It's kind of crazy."

On Saturday, UsMagazine.com spoke to Hewitt at the AZURE Luxury pool in the Palazzo Resort Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
She called the role her "raciest part" yet.

What else is in the works for the actress?
"Nothing at the moment," she told Us. "I'm working on some TV stuff, looking into some film stuff, everything like that. Not really sure where I'm going to land just yet."
Anyone special?
"No, nobody special," she told Us. "Just family. I'm single for the moment."

Tell Us What You Think
39What insensitive comments to make about prostitution. Most prostitution is forced and violent, not because women want to meet 'needs.' Why on earth hasn't she gotten media backlash for saying such ignorant and incendiary things? Its thinking like this that just propagates and bolsters the sex-trade in America and the legal inequities when it comes to prosecuting clients and providers. Disgusting, she should be ashamed of herself for saying such insensitive things about a very very vulnerable population of women who more often than not have no other options or way out.
I am willing to bet that the typical sex worker doesn't get turned on by what they're doing. I would think that after you've had sex with john after john, the last thing you'd want is sex. Their minds are probably somewhere else while they get through it. Of course she, a rich actress, would say something like that. Typically women need an emotional connection to enjoy sex. Nothing wrong with that. I don't know why women dog men for having casual sex but when women do it it means they're liberated. If doing the most intimate thing you can do with a complete stranger is liberated, I'm glad I'm not!
You know there are tons of single mothers who struggle raising their kids but never go out and sell their bodies. I think that's the easy way out.

you wanna bring up how many people she has been with to make her sound desperate? thats not desperate. shes looking for the right person just like you and me are doing. who cares if shes playing a prostitute in a movie, its called a character. shes a great actress & a beautiful woman!
She is such a moron.
i think it totally up to her...you gal!
So many of the comments are so hateful and angry. Many women seem to really hate prostitution and prostitutes while expressing a sort of false concern about the damage prostitution does to prostitutes. It's not just the men screwing them that are damaging them, you know. It's the hatred people have for them, looking down on them with disgust and a lack of compassion that is undoubtedly an enormous part of a toxic, hateful equation. Before spewing hate and disapproval while pretending to care, I think Jennifer's might be carefully considered. Her viewpoint is pretty darn compassionate and she's getting roasted by haters for merely being compassionate, understanding, kind. Think about that, if you can step outside your misogynstic little boxes.
I just really wanted to try the sharpie pen color
In the book, Restoring the Goddess by Barbara G Walker it talks about in the days of Goddess Worship (the first religion that humans had before it was violently destroyed by patriarchal God Worship, it states that prostitution was seen as a gift from the Goddess and was celebrated as life worship and woman worship... sex was the ultimate form of worshipping the woman and the Goddess! I recommend all of you read that book and study up on "herstory" not just the "history" taught in this patriarchal society.
she is so adorable! i am sure most of those comments are taken waaayyyy out of contexts! chill out people!
Pretty dress :)
people, get a brain! Open your mind. it's a movie,..exploring the life of a real woman and a real family. DOESN'T MEAN Jennifer is condoning it....means she understands how easy it might be to fall into that....don't be so quick to judge.
I do understand what she means. And I sympathize with and respect any woman that has had to do that for her children's survival, or even her own. People are always willing to judge, never to help. Poverty can be so cruel, and even its cruelty has levels. To anyone who thinks that they would "never" do something like that, I say look around you. Finer people were broken. You're not better than these people, only more fortunate. Life can push you to doing just about anything. And I believe that God would forgive the desperate act of a desperate person. Some people do it for kicks for heaven's sake. That's not the same, nor is selling drugs or becoming hitmen. That has its reasons too, as everything else does, but it's still different. There is also a difference between understanding something and agreeing with it. A fine line that only an academic is familiar with.
