Say cheese! Jenny McCarthy and Donnie Wahlberg are so in love, they make the perfect romance novel cover couple — and Us Weekly has the exclusive look at just that! The newlyweds, who said “I do” this past August, were recreated in a series of wind-blown portraits to promote their upcoming A&E docuseries Donnie Loves Jenny, a show they hope you watch with an “open mind.”
McCarthy, who appeared on her fiance’s family’s reality show Wahlburgers, told Us that when the opportunity came for them to do their own show together, they jumped at the chance to make “nice” and “sweet” reality TV. “We really enjoy being with each other and we enjoy making television, it’s in our blood,” the radio host explained. “We said, let’s do some high vibrational TV, let’s keep that energy going and see if we can be part of a shift where there is an audience for people that want to see some happy and some good, instead of some dark.”
And when McCarthy says “happy” and “good,” she means that viewers will get a glimpse at the real Donnie Wahlberg.
“I think people are going to be really surprised at how freakin’ hilarious Donnie is,” McCarthy told Us. “I mean, when I started dating him, I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, he is brilliantly funny!’ So I’m glad people will get a chance to see that in him.”
Another thing fans will get to witness? “Lumpy [our dog] farts constantly,” McCarthy admitted, laughing. “Those are always kind of awkward moments because we could be kissing or doing something loving and then there’s this horrific fart from the dog.”
The couple aren’t nervous about the “reality TV curse” either. “We went into this show saying, okay, there’s nothing salacious that’s going to happen because we don’t have fights,” the former Playboy model explained. “We’re very good about doing coping tools to kind of maneuver through anything that people might fight [about] so I’m not worried because everything we’re doing is us, and us is in the nicest vibration we always are in. And hopefully people will respond to that and not need crazy.”
The Blue Bloods actor agrees. During an interview with Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb on Tuesday, Jan. 6, Wahlberg said you can’t blame reality TV for the downfall of your relationship. “We’re not really worried about [the reality TV curse]…we always say reality TV shows don’t break up couples, couples break up couples.”
