Monkeying around? Jerry O’Connell‘s daughters visited the Los Angeles Zoo on Wednesday, June 1, leading the actor to joke on social media about the incident involving the boy who fell into a gorilla habitat at the Cincinnati Zoo over the weekend.
“If my kids fall in Gorilla Pit during their @LAZoo field trip, please shoot them, not the gorilla,” the Mistresses actor jokingly tweeted about his 7-year-old twin daughters, Dolly and Charlie, with wife Rebecca Romijn.

Harambe the gorilla was shot and killed on Saturday, May 28, after Michelle Gregg and Deonne Dickerson‘s 4-year-old son fell 15 feet into the animal’s pit. The incident has led to an investigation of the parents by the Cincinnati police, and Gregg’s 911 call was released.
There has been an outcry from animal activists including such celebs as Kaley Cuoco, Katherine McPhee and Ricky Gervais. Animal experts have spoken out about the incident and are divided on the zoo’s response, with Jane Goodall writing to Cincinnati Zoo director Thane Maynard that “the gorilla was putting an arm around the child.”
During a press conference on Monday, May 30, Maynard defended killing the animal and said authorities would “make the same decision” if they had it to do over.
