The 44-year-old ABC late-night talk show mainstay is set to host the 64th annual Primetime Emmy Awards September 23, the network announced Monday.

Succeeding Glee's Jane Lynch, Kimmel's hosting gig will be his first on the Emmys stage. Director/producer Don Mischer will executive produce the telecast for the 12th time.

In years past, Kimmel -- whose Jimmy Kimmel Live generated its most-watched February sweeps in five years -- has acted as host for the American Music Awards and the ESPY Awards.
