Another day, another exciting bit of news from the Harry Potter world!
On Tuesday, Sept. 22, J.K. Rowling treated fans to a new story to celebrate the redesign of her Pottermore site. Rowling’s new story explains the origins of Harry Potter’s family, and how they got to be so rich. We just can't believe we had to wait this long!
According to Rowling, Harry Potter’s last name was originally Potterer, but over time it was shortened to Potter. The name dates back to the 12th century and an “eccentric” wizard named Linfred of Stinchcombe.
As Rowling, 50, explained, he came up with magical cures for the common cold and broken bones. And as fans of the books know, these later evolved into potions taught at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Linfred’s wisdom is where Harry Potter and his ancestors got all their gold from!
So now that we know how Harry Potter’s family got so rich, we’re still wondering whether he and Ginny bought any swanky vacation homes for their family in London, or the States!
