Kate Gosselin Targeted in New Child Labor Probe

Kate Plus 8 could lose six of its cast members if one Pennsylvania state lawmaker gets his way.
Rep. Thomas Murt argues state law permits children under the age of 7 to work in movies, but not on television.

This would make 35-year-old Kate Gosselin's sextuplets Aaden, Alexis, Collin, Hannah, Joel and Leah -- who turned 6 in May -- ineligible for filming.
On Tuesday, Murt sent a series of letters to the state attorney general and labor secretary which questioned the legality of the work permits.

State labor officials previously said that TLC producers should have obtained work permits for the original Jon & Kate Plus 8, though no penalties were imposed.

Twins Cara and Mady -- who are 9-years-old -- would still be allowed to continue filming.

240I would like to add those of us who HATE especially people who we do not know personally need to get a real life not to mention no one should HATE anyone. These shows are put on to make money and those who HATE appear to be nothing but Jealous and add to the ratings. Just don't watch. The HATERS are probably insecure soccer MOMS who mind everyone elses business and drive mini vans. I for one cannot stand the two in my neighborhood. Gossip and coffee that's all they know.
I also was not liking these people but after watching Kate Plus 8 (minus Jon) she is a great MOM and that guy was immature to have a family. She was portrayed as mean but you can tell she had 9 kids with him and then he cheats. Real Nice for a so called family man. He needs to grow up period.

I bet Kimora and the Duggars and Tori Spelling only WISHED they got this sort of attention because of their reality show. Nobody cares about their kids, they only care about the Gosselin kids. Their kids could get lost in the forest while filming an episode in which they are looking for grizzly bears, and no one would care. The Gosselin kids are being filmed playing in their front yard? THAT IS OUTRAGEOUS!! Those KIDS need to be PROTECTED from that sort of EXPLOITATION!!!!! Oh, the haters....do they realize that everyone knows it's about HATING Kate and NOT about protecting the kiddies on reality tv. You know, there are other reality tv shows with kids on them! OH, you didn't know? Well, those kids don't count, anyway. They're not KATE'S kids, so they're not important. :)
If Ms. Gosselin, the 8, and her entourage are in Alaska - who's feeding the chickens? Reality TV is not reality. Reality TV remains popular as long as there are gullible viewers gullible who believe it is real. Ms. Gosselin PLAYS THE PART of a "super mom" but she is not. She has lots of help. Lucky her that she has such help, I would think with 8 kids, 6 under the age of 7 ANYONE would require help. There is no shame in having help - though Ms. Gosselin must think so - or admitting to the help puts that super mom character in question.
Organic food *is* more expensive. Here, one dozen regualr eggs cost $1.12 - organic eggs 3.89/dozen. Regular milk - 2.29.gallon - organic milk 5.59/gallon on sale. Mani-pedi in my neighbor hood is $50 to 95$ depending on salon. A week's worth of organic milk at one gallon per day would be less than $42 - taking a mani-pedi/spray tan at $90 (for the sake of discussion) at one per week, the cost is $360 per month. Drop one of and do the touch ups herself and that pays for 2 weeks of organic milk. Which her kids enjoy but instead are given juice boxes - which end up in a landfill...so Ms. Gosselin does EVERYTHING for the kids? Hmmmm...

Regular milk is 2.29 a gallon, organic milk 5.59 a gallon (on sale). Dramatic differences. As for mani-pedis, where I live a mani-pedi is $50 - $90 dollars. Certainly NOT a necessity, a necessity is something that is necessary to sustain life. For the sake of argument, lets say a mani-pedi is $50. Once a week is a monthy cost of $200. A gallon of organic milk - lets round to $6.00. Assuming the Gosselins would consume a gallon a day a weeks worth of organic milk - $42. If Ms. Gosslin trades one mani-pedi a month and does her own touch up herself, she'd able to purchase a week's worth of organic milk - for her children. Hmmm, Ms. Gosselin claims EVRYTHING she does is for her kids but denies them milk, which the children love. She gives them juicy juicy boxes instead. The boxes fill the landfills. Not a good thing for environment that her children live in and will inherit. As for spray tans - we do not yet know what long term effects will be had by spraying chemicals on the skin (and yes those parents who spray tan their little darlings for pagents seriously are misguided). Not that long ago, tanning was considered healthy. We know better today - one bad burn (Ms. Gosselin was badly burned on that "getaway" she and Mr. Gosselin had on the show) and the chances of skin cancer increase dramatically. Sadly, from personal experience when I was a teen and was badly sunburned, I have had numerous pre-cancerous lesions removed. Scary business. Do any of you if Ms. Gosselin continued to recycle after Sarah Snow left? I've heard she was less than thrilled to have solar panels placed on her house. How about switching to flourescent light bulbs. I don't see how one homes in on one aspect of healthy living (organic food) but disregards others.
TLC is the employer. It is the employee's responsibilty to get the work permit in this case as the children are minors it would be Ms. Gosselin's responsiblity. TCL needs to make sure they have the permits NOT obtain them.

EMPLOYMENT OF MINORS IN PERFORMANCES (which includes TV) PLEASE READ clause 11.2 PURPOSE - It doesn't sound like special work permits can be granted to any individual except for children over 7 and under 18 years of age. NO special permits can be granted otherwise (which includes kids under 7). Sure sounds to me like they were granted inappropriately and breaking law. Looking for some hard concrete evidence to say what right the head of the Labor Department can go ahead against state law and grant special permits! Send your response if you have some concrete evidence (that isn't an emotional based argument). Although the investigation will take time, looks like ratings are dropping anyway.

Looks like you can still watch your show just enjoy while it is still on the ratings are down and not you little obsessors can do anything about it to stop it. Maybe the last season and hope it is for the sake of the children.

'Kate Plus 8' child work permits defended The Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry Tuesday defended work permits it issued allowing the 6-year-old sextuplets of Kate Gosselin to appear in the reality series "Kate Plus 8." A department official says the permits are valid, and the case is closed. Bottom line, it looks as if the TLC show goes on despite questions raised by child advocates about the permits. Last week, Pennsylvania State Rep. Thomas Murt questioned the validity of the permits, which run until Oct. 20, since they only allowed the children to appear in "public performances" -- not TV productions. Children under seven years of age are not allowed to appear in TV shows in Pennsylvania. While Murt asked the attorney general to investigate the matter of the permits, that has not yet happened. Furthermore, under rules of prtocul, it will only happen if the depertment of Labor & Industry asks the attorney general to rule on the matter.----HA HA HA HA MURT MADE A COMPLETE A$$ OUT OF HIMSELF!!!!

HA HA HA HA HA" Its the legal responsibility of TLC to get the correct permits and make sure they are not breaking any laws. TLC has a big legal department, its their job to keep the company from breaking laws. Its the same for regular people. Its your responsibility to know the laws. Its your responsibility to keep yourself from breaking them. Saying "I did not know that I was breaking the law" wont go anywhere in court.

See this is the typical stupid Kate fan where do you live that someone comes knocking on your door from the your state of residence and says, "excuse me but you are breaking the law but sorry it is our fault because we didn't tell you what the law is." It is a person's responsibility to abide by the law and if there is an uncertainty then you find the answer yourself or you seek Legal advice. TLC's fault maybe PA let them go for too long but ultimately just because they were not caught before doesn't mean you can't get in trouble now.
