Kendall Jenner is ready to fly the coop, but mom Kris Jenner isn't quite ready to let her. The reality star-turned-model sparked some drama on Sunday's Keeping Up With the Kardashians when she told Kris she wanted to move out once she turned 18 -- a plan her mother was less than thrilled to hear. (The episode was filmed last fall; Kendall celebrated her 18th birthday on Nov. 3, 2013.)
"I am excited to be turning 18. It's one of my first steps in becoming an independent woman. And one of the first things I want to do is get a place of my own," the teen said in a confessional. "I'm excited to see what's out there."
Sister Kim Kardashian, 33, counseled Kendall to wait. "If I were to give you advice now, it's live here as long as you possibly can," she said. Added Kris, 58: "Exactly. I think you should really take your time, Kendall."
The mom of six later discussed her daughter's plans with husband Bruce, from whom she has been separated for more than a year. Bruce thought the idea was a good one and argued about it with Kris on a roller coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain, where the family was celebrating Kendall's birthday. "I'm upset because you keep taking Kendall's side and allowing her to, like, move out," Kris said. "And she's 18 years old."
"Yeah, well, she's a very mature girl," Bruce replied, later noting that he moved out of the house when he was 18. "You know, kids do this," he said in a confessional.
"She's a lot more mature than Kim was when she moved out at 18, and you didn't have problems with [Kim moving out]," he reasoned. "And honestly, I think it would be good for her to move out. I mean, look what's going on at our house, with Kanye [West] there and all these people. It would be perfect for her to have her own place, get her out on her own, and get the responsibility that goes along with it."
"It's a little suspicious that Bruce wants her to move to Malibu so she can be closer to him," Kris countered. "And I'm not going to take it anymore."
Ultimately, however, Kris agreed to let Kendall start looking for a place of her own -- though not without some more debate. "I'm never going to be ready to let Kendall go," she confessed.
