Kelis Doesn’t Drink Milkshakes Despite “Milkshake” Trademark Song

It’s all been a lie. Singer Kelis, who made a name for herself crooning about milkshakes, admitted this week that she isn’t a fan of the dessert beverage.

“Funnily enough I don’t actually drink milkshakes,” Kelis told the UK’s Mirror in an interview in support of her ongoing concerts and new album Food

The star, 35, saw her biggest success to date with 2003’s “Milkshake,” which had her singing about her inimitable milkshake — that is, her sex appeal — that brought “all the boys to the yard.” The song was certified gold in the U.S., hitting No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topping charts worldwide.

Though she may not sip on shakes, Kelis still has positive feelings about the song.

“With ‘Milkshake,’ I love the song,” she told Spin this past April. “It’s bright. I know what it meant, I know what it did for music and for female artists in that era. I’m not saying I single-handedly did it, but you know it played a huge part in where music went. I’m aware of that, I don’t regret it or resent it at all, and I’ve found new fun ways to perform it and to do it and make it enjoyable for people. I don’t put too much thought into it.”
