If only all in-laws got along as well as these two do! Kelly Clarkson had the great honor of introducing her mother-in-law, Reba McEntire, at the 2015 Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday, April 19 — and she couldn’t have been happier to do it.
The “Heartbeat” singer, who’s married to McEntire’s stepson Brandon Blackstock, had only the nicest things to say about the country icon, one of seven stars chosen for the 50th Anniversary Milestone Award at Sunday’s show.
“Our next Milestone recipient and performer is the ACMs top-winning female vocalist, with a total of seven awards,” Clarkson began. “During her amazing career, she has won a total of 13 ACM Awards. Plus, she put this show on the map by hosting 14 times.”
She continued: “I never could have imagined when I was at the ACMs nine years ago, and I yelled backstage to Reba, ‘I want to be you when I grow up,’ that one day, we would not only become friends…but in the most crazy twist of fate, she would become my family.”
Amid wild cheers from the crowd, she added, “So basically what I’m saying here, people, is that I have the coolest mother-in-law, and you all can suck it! Ladies and gentlemen, the one and only Reba!”
