It's been four short years since Kirsten Dunst last appeared in Spider-Man 3, ending her role as the superhero's longtime love interest Mary Jane Watson.
Though the 29-year-old actress won't appear in 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man (starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone), Dunst tells MovieFone she believes fans will always hold the trilogy with Tobey Maguire in high regard.
"I feel what we did was special and I don't think that goes away," Dunst explains. "There's a new generation of kids that will watch these and this will be theirs. These are the people they'll identify with as Spider-Man."
Dunst, who first played the comic book character in 2002, said she has high hopes for real-life loves and costars Garfield, 28, and Stone, 23.
"I do like those two," she tells MovieFone. "And I do think they're going to be good together."
The Amazing Spider-Man hits theaters on July 3, 2012.
