"It's actually been cathartic for me, because I felt like I was broken for a while [before the show]," former Cheers star Alley, 60, tells Oprah Winfrey in a new interview airing Thursday. (Watch an exclusive sneak preview above)

And competing on the ABC series hasn't just whittled her middle, says the actress, who hopes to drop 30-40 more pounds during her stint. "It's given me confidence back, so it's been amazing."

Alley's pro partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, credits the actress with making his seventh season his best yet.

"I've never had a star of this caliber before," Chmerkovskiy, 31, tells Winfrey. "All my partners were amazing, but this is a whole new side of Dancing With the Stars I've never experienced."

Win or lose, the dance moves Alley's learned from Chmerkovskiy will pay off.

"I would like to dance in a movie. I'd like to be able to say 'cut' and do it again!" she told UsMagazine.com after Tuesday's show. "I want to do Broadway. It's one of the big reasons I'm doing this. Even though I keep forgetting that."
