Kristin Chenoweth: I Get Why Glee Is Cutting Back on Guest Stars

As Glee fans continue to come to terms with Chord Overstreet's role getting scaled back, fellow guest star Kristin Chenoweth says she understands why creator Ryan Murphy made the casting decision he did.

"I think he's trying to get his show back," 42-year-old Chenoweth — whose own role as April Rhodes has been trimmed so Murphy can focus on his core cast — tells Zap2it.com. "I think he's trying to really concentrate on his characters. I actually understand that. I get it. People want to see those characters."

As he shifts the focus back to Glee's graduating seniors and enhances the role of newcomers Darren Criss and Harry Shum, Jr., Murphy wonders why there's such a backlash over his casting choices.

"I think the only reason people get hung up on certain things about Glee is because they're passionate about the show. Or maybe they could give a f—, I don't know [laughs]," he tells TVGuide.com. "I just like to try stuff out. We're doing the absolute best we can. There's no model for what we're doing. I think the motto for this show that I'd like to adopt is: 'Sometimes great, never boring.' That's what I'm aiming for."
