Lady Gaga Teases Sexy New ‘Perfect Illusion’ Music Video: Watch

Oh my Gaga! Lady Gaga took to Instagram on Friday, September 16, to treat fans to a first look at her music video for “Perfect Illusion,” the lead single from the pop diva’s forthcoming fifth studio album, Joanne.

In the nine-second clip — which you can watch above — Mother Monster, 30, performs for a huge group of fans during a sunset concert. Dressed in a black body-hugging T-shirt and denim cut-offs, a fresh-faced Gaga rocks out as she swings a microphone over her head and gyrates her hips from side to side.

“The #PERFECTILLUSION music video premieres Tues, Sept 20 during the premiere of Scream Queens on FOX at 9pm ET!” the Grammy winner captioned the post. “Co-directed by @ruthhogbenand and @andreacgelardin.”

In the song (co-written and produced by Gaga, Mark Ronson, Kevin Parker and Bloodpop), the chart-topper belts out, “It wasn’t love / It was a perfect illusion.” While many speculated that the rock-tinged tune was written about the superstar’s ex-fiancé Taylor Kinney, she clarified that it wasn’t during a September 12 interview with Andy Cohen.

“I love Taylor so, so much,” she said on Cohen’s SiriusXM Radio Andy show. “This song is not a hit out against Taylor. He’s my best friend. This song is just about, I’m sure, not only feelings I’ve had but feelings he’s had, that my friends have had, that my sister has in her relationship. It’s a record about all of us, and I would never use my song or want to use the public to hurt anyone that I love so much.”

She added: “The record is about being so intoxicated with love, so high [and] dilated, falling free in a modern ecstasy that you wake up one day and you can’t believe that it was not real.” (Joanne is the follow-up to 2013’s Artpop.)

On Thursday, the eccentric recording artist released the cover art for Joanne and revealed the meaning behind the LP’s title. Joanne is one of Gaga’s middle names — she was born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta — and it is also the name of her late aunt, who died of Lupus at age 19 in 1974, 12 years before the singer was even born.

“It’s everything about Joanne, which also happens to be my middle name — I was named after her — it’s all the toughness of the pain of losing her that made us all strong and made us who we are,” the family-focused NYC native explained during a Beats 1 Radio interview. “She is the woman of my past who is becoming and helping me bring more of my honest woman self into the future.”

Watch the video above. Joanne drops Wednesday, October 21.
