What are the odds? Lauren Graham opened up about her first day on the set of the Gilmore Girls revival, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Tuesday, November 22.
The Parenthood alum, 49, who plays Lorelei Gilmore in the beloved series, had a crazy serendipitous moment happen to her, thanks to a wardrobe choice she made.
“On the very first day, I was so nervous. I couldn’t decide what to wear because it was the scene where it’s the first time you’ll see my character. I kept changing, changing, changing. Finally I had to go, so I picked something off the rack and it was a little big and my dresser pinned it in the back,” she explained to host Ellen DeGeneres. “And at the end of the day [the costume designer] knocks on my door and says, ‘I have something to show you. I swear I didn’t see this before, but this is the shirt you picked.’ I had thought there was a pin in my back and she came and cut the tag out. … The shirt was called the ‘Lorelei Two.'”
Graham even brought along a photo to prove it. “It became such a symbol for me of all the special, magical, incredible things that had to happen for this to come together,” she said. “I kept a diary and wrote about it.”
Gilmore Girls ran for seven seasons, from 2000 to 2007. It’s been nine years since Graham played the single mother and Dragonfly Inn manager, but she had no trouble getting back into character.
“I snapped back into it like no time had passed,” she said. “I’ve never had an experience like it. It was one of the happiest times in my life.”
Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life debuts on Netflix on Friday, November 25.
