LeAnn Rimes Responds to Shape Cover Controversy
LeAnn Rimes is speaking out after Shape editor-in-chief Valerie Latona called the singer's October cover "a terrible mistake."

In an e-mail addressed to readers outraged by the singer's shocking interview (where Rimes explained why she cheated on ex-husband Dean Sheremet with Eddie Cibrian), Latona explained that "putting her on the cover was not meant to put a husband-stealer on a pedestal, but to show (through her story) how we all are human."
Rimes, blind-sided by the mass e-mail, took to her Twitter account to share her side of the story.

"Just so all my fans know, I'm getting to the bottom of this. It's the first I've heard of this," the 28-year-old singer tweeted Friday. "Shape is throwing me a party next week as a thank you and a congrats for being on their cover for the third time. I find this very contradictory."
Rimes then tweeted an invitation to RSVP for the Shape cocktail reception, taking place Nov. 4 at Trousdale in West Hollywood.

Shape's editor-in-chief spoke to USA Today Friday, explaining that her words were taken out of context and that "a mere 40 readers out of almost six million" wrote in to complain about Rimes.
"I stand by the fact that LeAnn's story is compelling -- and her courage and strength in the face of so much adversity is compelling," Latona said. "I wrote to those women apologizing that our cover choice did not make them happy, as I have done for other cover stars in the past."

To Suzie and Kelly: We have the right to say what we think just as you do. No, Angelina shouldn't be on any cover, either. Some of us are simply tired of people like these being glorified. As for the statement "get over it", that's irrelevant, because some of us aren't losing any sleep over them.

Jesus people, she wasn't on the cover bc she cheated, she was on the cover because she's IN SHAPE, which is what that magazine is about. She did an interview to explain herself, and apologize for how her and Eddie went about their relationship, saying she knows it was wrong how they went about it. It's funny how Brad and Angelina can be on a cover with Shiloh and people don't b!tch about that, but she gets on a cover to show how fit she is, and its a crime. Last time I checked, a person can't 'steal' anyone. He wouldn't have left his wife if he was happy with her, obviously something was missing in their relationship, whether Brandi wants to admit that or not. She shouldn't be the cover girl for any magazine right now. People still remember what she did. To Jes Gibson: Some of us see Brad Pitt as no better than LeAnn just because he's a guy. Cheating is no better for a guy than for a woman. As for LeAnn, I don't know what Eddie ever saw in her; she's not even remotely attractive. She looks like the true definition of a "hillbilly". I'm sure there are some pretty "Southern belles", but she's not it.

Donna - I agree with you. We don't expect perfection from anyone but what you said is true about her getting thru this "tough time". She (and EC) brought it on herself and Shape should not put someone on the cover that has gotten thru this type of "adversity" with courage - PLEASE! Disease, cancer, death - now that would be something else!
