Lena Dunham After Taylor Swift Show: No Woman Should Have to Stand Next to Supermodels

Lena Dunham talked about performing with Taylor Swift and friends.

Telling it like it is! Lena Dunham recently took the stage alongside such stunners as supermodels Gigi Hadid and Lily Aldridge and actress Hailee Steinfeld at a Taylor Swift concert, and she revealed in a new interview that the moment was not as easy as it looked.

The Girls star, 29, talked about her night at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium for Swift’s 1989 World Tour in a chat with filmmaker Judd Apatow in New York City on Monday, July 13. Dunham, who also appeared in the singer’s star-studded “Bad Blood” music video, is among many Swift pals to join her onstage.

“I was so thrilled to support my friend and so displeased to learn about the truth of my own height,” Dunham said candidly. “I’ve been feeling pretty tall and feeling pretty sturdy, and it was amazing to be, like, ‘Oh, I’m not tall, I’m chubby.’ It’s different.”

“On most days, I feel really great and fine about my body, but I don’t think standing next to, like, three supermodels or so is anything even the most confident woman needs to do,” the Emmy-nominated actress continued. “When I socialize with those women, which I’ve done a little bit because they’re good friends of Taylor’s, who is a good friend of mine, I don’t feel so strange. But the minute I caught sight of myself in the Jumbotron, I knew something was very wrong.”

Wearing a black long-sleeved T-shirt and black pants and with minimal makeup as her “Bad Blood” character of Lucky Fiori, Dunham stood in stark contrast to the three other scantily clad guest stars. Steinfeld, Aldridge, and Hadid all showed off their legs in short, skintight numbers, with the two supermodels also baring their midriffs in crop tops.

Apatow, 47, acknowledged this contrast and the humor it provided to the photos from the event — a sentiment that Dunham appreciated.

“I like that you just admitted that it was funny, because I got all these texts from friends saying like, ‘I just want you to know you’re beautiful,’ and I was like, ‘I didn’t ask for that,'” she told the Knocked Up director. “You were just like, ‘That was the f–king funniest thing I’ve ever seen.’ And my boyfriend [Jack Antonoff] made it his screensaver, because he thinks it’s so funny to just look at the height difference and look at all the people in makeup, and then me. And that’s the reaction that’s like, ‘Get the f–k out!'”

Dunham also joked about the show via Instagram this week, sharing a photo of herself with Aldridge, Swift, and Hadid. “But seriously, how did that drug addicted secretary get up there?” she joked of herself. “Or is she a runaway cellist? Oh I know it’s a 7th grade boy who is into tech theater.”
