Former David Letterman assistant Stephanie Birkitt is at the center of the plot to extort $2 million from the 62-year-old Late Show host.
According to reports, Birkitt, 34, recently lived with Robert "Joe" Halderman, a 48 Hours producer who allegedly threatened to cause "severe damage" to Letterman's life by revealing that he had sexual relationships with his female employees.
Fox 5 News reports that when Halderman allegedly handed over a package of potentially embarrassing information to Letterman on Sept. 5, it included copies of parts of Birkitt's diary, among other items.

Birkitt -- who began as an intern in 1996 -- often appeared on camera joking around with Dave, who referred to her by different nicknames, including "Smitty" and "Monty." In the video (above), he calls her "Vicki."

She is just pissed that she has no comedic skills. You know she was donkin him to get ahead in the bussiness. Everyone is so quick to blame Dave but I'm sure this talentless nitwit benefited in some way. Perhaps being on the skit was her reward.
It is relatively easy for any celebrity to seduce young foolish interns into sex. There is an inherent power play/idol worship psychology to these types of situations. Interns want to please "the boss", especially when they are getting special attention or praise. If Letterman wasn't famous or rich, what young woman would even look at him as someone to date, much less have a sexual relationship with? Letterman is your basic dirty old man who excuses himnself with the phrase, "it was consensual". If CBS does have a clause in his contract that prohibits these types of relationships with other employees, it will be interesting to see what happens.
