Linda Perry, Sara Gilbert Writing a Children’s Album With Their Kids

The family that rocks together, stays together! Linda Perry enjoyed success as the lead singer of 4 Non Blondes, and went on to become a producer and songwriter, working with the likes of Gwen Stefani and Christina Aguilera. But no project is more precious than her new one: a children’s album cowritten and produced by her family!

Inspired to start penning kids’ songs after the birth of her and Gilbert’s son, Rhodes, Perry, 50, asked The Talk‘s Gilbert, 40, if she’d want to release a children’s album. As Perry told Us Weekly, the rest was history. I started playing some stuff to her, and the kids were liking it,” the singer-songwriter said during a recent visit to our New York City office. “Then I thought, wouldn’t it be fun if you guys gave me topics and we’ll call ourselves Dear Sounds, and it’ll be an album for kids written by kids.”

With son Levi, 10, and daughter Sawyer, 7, on board, Perry is intending to release an album even parents can enjoy. “I wanted to do something the parents would like, since they’re going to be the ones listening to it over and over,” Perry, who coparents Gilbert’s two children from her previous relationship with Alison Adler, told Us.

Married since March 2014, Gilbert and Perry’s lives have been forever changed by the addition of 4-month-old son Rhodes, whom Gilbert gave birth to in February. “Life is completely different having a newborn. It’s changed me as a person as far as becoming more patient and really simplifying life,” Perry explained.

One issue she’s struggling to be patient on is her son’s slow adoption to music. “When he’s with me, he won’t let me play music. I go to the piano and sit him there, and he’ll be quiet, but as soon as I start playing, he’ll start crying,” the new mom told Us. “I’m trying to figure out what that means. He just wants my attention. Does he love music? I think so!”
