Video: Maksim Chmerkovskiy: Why I Lashed Out on DWTS
Mad Maks!
On Monday's Dancing with the Stars, Hope Solo's pro partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy really, really went off on judge Len Goodman after he called their rumba their "worst dance of the season."
Chmerkovskiy angrily objected to Goodman, charging that the remarks were "disrespectful," and that the judges' criteria for contestants wasn't fair.

"I've been in this business for 50 years," Goodman argued.
"Then maybe it's time to go!" Chmerkovskiy barked back amid their verbal battle.
The outspoken dancer wasn't exactly contrite backstage talking with co-host Brooke Burke Charvet, either. "With all due respect, this is my show," he said. "I helped make it what it is," he said.

Chmerkovskiy later explained himself -- somewhat apologetically -- to The Hollywood Reporter. "Len is the only one who comes from a ballroom background, and I really respect his opinion," he said. "I've danced for 27 years, and I've won more titles than Len ever even participated in."
As for his argument that DWTS is "my show," he explained: "I feel like it's my show, and together, with other pros, I dedicated six years of my life to this show...I've helped make it what it is, but I've never taken it away from anybody else who participated."

Yes, he was way out of line even though he was right about Len. Maksim in NOT the show!! He needs to learn humility and respect. Get rid of him! Claudia
I think Hope should have been eliminated way before Chyna. Just because she's young, skinny and attractive and dances mediocre she gets to stay. The judges are doing what they are supposed to be doing which is evaluating technique and form. Why is it that other contestants on the show realized improvement while Hope was still clutzy and with an attitude. I think she should have been axed a long time ago. Max was defensive of her because obviously he wants to get in her pants. DWTS has turned into a popularity contest instead of a true dancing ability contest. I hope Ricki Lake or Rob Kardasian win. They really deserve it. Two competitors who haven't used anything as an excuse. I guess Hope likes to complain, then why didn't she complain about her sub-par performance in the soccer game against Japan? Doesn't anyone accept personal responsiblity anymore????

I think Max was right,I,m 70 years old and I think Len Goodman,the old fuddy duddy should retire.His comments to the contestants are more disrespectful then any thing Max said.In my opinion He is the worst part of a great show.I wish he would step down and get a new judge next season.I cringe every time he opens his mouth

Yes & No. Only because the old geezer Len Goodman is who he is, but, yes, he did deserve Mak's going off on him because they have no tack in telling the dancers their mistakes nicely! I don't care if they are the judges, people have feelings and these celebrities and pro dancers work their asses off to put together their routines. Ball room dancing is not the same as what these performers do. Goodman comes from the Arthur Murray era and there's no way in hell that he has done the same type of routines as these dancers on DWTS! Go Maks!!!

I did neglect to mention in my previous post that I do agree with most other posters about the tone and personal nature of the judges comments. Namecalling and other personal attacks DO NOT have a place here. I have found myself watching closely and wondering what the judges were looking at with some of their scores and comments. It is supposed to be about the quality of the performance, not general appearance (penguin) or some of the other rude and disrespectful statements. In one sense Maks was absolutely correct about respect, it is a 2 way street.
I have watched and loved DWTS for all but the first season, didn't know about it yet... Maks has acted like a spoiled child. His statements to Len and the infamous "my show" statement say alot about his lack of professionalism. I have not seen any comments about his quiet demeanor the following week. Quiet yet brutal, was I the only one that noticed how brutally he handled Hope on the dance floor? That was unadulterated, vicious, and totally uncalled for. I was concerned he was going to hurt her with his nearly throwing he through the routine. Thank goodness Hope is a phenomenal athlete with tremendous grace that saw her through that type of handling. Cool it Maks, it is not a "one man show"
First...I like Maks, Derek, Tony. Why is it that we don't see much of Johnathon and Louie? Second...You can pretty much tell who is going to be in the running fot the mirror ball. It's like they pick the pretty and sexy ones and pair them up with the pretty, sexy pros. Maks is both, so why is he never given a partner that can even the odds. I've noticed that about some of the other pros also. I also like the judges, but they sometimes seem to forget why they are there. They criticize some and praise others for the same thing. I have watched from the first season and I hope I will stick with it, but I think it needs some revamping. I also like Derek and Mark's dances. Oh someone needs to tell Len that it is ok to like things from this Century...No disrespect meant.
I agree wiyh Max and other dancers, Len is not as rude as carrie, she is no dancer and she is very rude to the females. Some times she really angers people,such as the coment about form . shes no Jalo. len telling MAKS NOT TO GET THE CROWD INVOLVED, tHE CROWD WATCH THESHOW TO SEE THE DANCERS, NOT THE JUDGES, LET THE LET THE CROWD VOTE ON THE JUDGES. the YOU NEED TO GET SOME NEW BLOOD . I have watched Maks and other dancers do many different dances . The judges use the same barbed lines as from the first show . with that kind of canned judgeing its a wonder any star will sign up to let a no talent bum like carrie be rude, even when she says something {nice} its sick sweet.It is the dancers show not the judges.
Len was disrespectful first! Telling Maks not to get the crowd involved was wrong. Maks was trying to release his irritation non-verbally thru the shows method - crowd involvement. So why isn't anyone calling Len disrespectful for trying to control Maks. And Maks was laughing when he told Len it was time to get out - it wasn't meant seriously. It became uncomfortable to watch based on Len and Carrie Ann's actions. And I hope that all this negative press isn't going to make Hope quit the show before she is voted off based on her ability.
I totally agree with Maks. The judges have really gotten too personal with their comments. They are showing favoritism more so than ever this season and if they don't watch it they will be losing fans. There is no need to be rude. Constructive criticism only please! Maks is superb and possibly a bit tempermental but he works hard to bring out the best in his partners as do all of the other professionals.
