He’s baaack! Matt Damon is out for blood and is an all-around badass in the first official trailer for Jason Bourne — and fans wouldn’t have it any other way.
“I know who I am. I remember. I remember everything,” Damon’s ex–secret agent protagonist says in the sneak peek.
“Remembering everything doesn’t mean you know everything,” Julia Stiles‘ Nicky replies.
Nevertheless, it’s game time — and Bourne is on the run once more. The action-packed trailer includes street riots, car chases and (a shirtless!) Bourne taking part in a bare-knuckle fight in the desert.
“He’s seen things. He knows things,” a government official says. “What if he’s not coming for us? What if it’s something else?”
Earlier this month, director Paul Greengrass teased Bourne’s return during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “[He’s] been in the shadows of Europe,” he said.
Damon, 45, previously starred as the once-amnesiac CIA assassin in 2004’s The Bourne Supremacy and 2007’s The Bourne Ultimatum. He opted out of reprising the role in 2012’s The Bourne Legacy, which ultimately featured Jeremy Renner.
“This is the completion of this journey that started in The Bourne Identity. It’s part of the first three [movies], it’s not a whole new chapter,” the Oscar winner added to EW. “It feels like the conclusion, even though we’re not saying it’s the conclusion. It feels like the conclusion of my identity journey. It goes deeper than Ultimatum, basically.”
Jason Bourne also stars Tommy Lee Jones, Alicia Vikander, Vincent Cassel, Riz Ahmed, Ato Essandoh and Neve Gachev.
The action thriller hits theaters July 29, 2016.
