It's a bird! It's a plane! It's...Henry Cavill!
The British actor, 27, will take on the role of Superman in the series reboot, Warner Bros. announced Sunday. Helmed by director Zack Snyder and producer Chris Nolan, the film is scheduled for a December 2012 release.
According to reports, Cavill beat out True Blood's Joe Manganiello, The Social Network's Armie Hammer and White Collar's Matthew Bomer to play the iconic superhero (and his alter-ego Clark Kent).
Best-known as Charles Brandon on Showtime's The Tudors, Cavill replaces actor Brandon Routh (who starred in 2006's Superman Returns).
