What would Margaret Thatcher have to say about Meryl Streep's potty mouth?

When the 62-year-old Iron Lady star accepted the award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Drama) at Sunday's 69th Annual Golden Globes, an overwhelmed Streep walked onstage without her spectacles. "Oh, sh-t!" she announced. "My glasses!"

Flustered but undeterred, Streep attempted to recite her speech from memory as producer Harvey Weinstein and The Descendants' George Clooney passed her glasses through the audience.

"I can't believe I said 'sh-t on TV," Streep told reporters backstage. "I had such a good speech and I couldn't see it. Even if you held it in the front row, I couldn't read it because I left my glasses at the table."

Streep beat out Viola Davis (The Help), Rooney Mara (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo), Tilda Swinton (We Need to Talk About Kevin) and Glenn Close (Albert Nobbs) to earn her eighth Golden Globe, though she told reporters she's just "really grateful to keep working."

"I think about each individual story, and if the story's interesting, it doesn't matter if it’s a waitress or a queen," Streep said of her varied resume. "I'm not discriminating that way. I'm happy to play interesting people who have challenges in one way or another."
