Fifty Shades of Schmidt! New Girl’s Max Greenfield is known for his comedy antics as the fan-favorite and resident loft goofball, Schmidt. But could there be a sexier side to him?
“Are there any major blockbusters that I’d want to join? You know, I’m just looking to get into that Fifty Shades of Grey,” Greenfield, 34, joked with Us Weekly, while promoting his new partnership with home-buying site Trulia. “Maybe I could be the 51st Shade? I don’t know, that’s definitely a move I’m looking to make.”
The actor has already played sexy roles in the past. What, you don’t remember his turn as a young Sandy Cohen on The O.C.?
“The heat that I gave off from a young Sandy Cohen is the kind of heat that I would bring to a 51st Shade of Grey,” Greenfield said with a grin.
Perhaps some of this buzzed-about “heat” will be applied to the beloved Schmidt/Cece (Hannah Simone) romance, as New Girl approaches its season 4 finale. With the tension between the exes building, Greenfield teased some upcoming sparks between the two.
“You gotta watch the rest of the season,” he coyly said. “There are some big moments at the end. In our finale there’s a big Cece and Schmidt moment. I can tell you this, there’s no cliffhanger. The road keeps on going.”
And though Schmidt and Jess (Zooey Deschanel) almost had a brief fling, Greenfield assured fans that there won’t be any awkward hookups in the loftmates’ future.
“I don’t think Jess and Schmidt are going to have a serious fling for obvious reason that Nick, his best friend, dated her for so long,” he explained. “[Schmidt] is in this spiral with Cece, and I just think it’s too incestuous. I think there’s always a glimmer of hope for Nick and Jess.”
Shooting for season 5 has started earlier due to star Deschanel’s first pregnancy, which will not be written into the show.
“There’s a definitely a baby in Zooey’s stomach,” her costar joked. “That’s happening. The pregnancy is not written on the show. There’s a lot of close-up [shots] and books and bags in front of her stomach. It’s cool to jump right into the next season, just because we’re all still in it and the stories are still so fresh.”
After “living” with the pals in the loft on New Girl for four seasons, Greenfield found it natural to partner up with Trulia — a home rental and sale site — to help customers find their next pad.
“I’ve had such a great experience buying homes in the past,” Greenfield explained. “Trulia is such a great destination to make buying a home or renting a home so much easier and fun for anybody who’s in the situation. It just seemed like a really nice pairing.”
