Patti Stanger Tells Gays: "I've Tried to Curb You People"

Tough love or total bigotry?
Millionaire Matchmaker's Patti Stanger appears to be practicing the latter. On Sunday night's premiere of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Bravo, Stanger made sweeping, stereotypical generalizations about gay men looking for love.

When a caller named Dustin asked the reality star what she thought about "open relationships," she told him: "In the gay world, there's always going to be open [relationships]. Are you straight or gay?"
He answered gay, to which she said: "Ok, well then you're ok. There's Grindr [the online site that connects gay/bisexual men in the same area] for you. Go on Grindr. You'll have a great time."
Cohen, 43, looked appalled at Stanger's remarks. "Hold on," he said. "So wait, the gays can have open relationships?" (Stanger's dating policy across the board calls for monogamous relationships only, but this apparently only applies to heterosexual couples.)
"There's no curbing the gay," Stanger snapped. "I've tried to curb you people and you just don't [change]. I've decided to throw in the towel and just say, 'Do what you want. But when you find the right person, you will know.'"
When Cohen told Stanger, "I am a gay and I'm down for the monogamy," she burst out laughing in his face and asked, "When was the last time you had a [serious] boyfriend?" He answered that it'd been six years, and then became "uncomfortable" and moved the conversation along.
When Tyler, a self-proclaimed "gay man from Los Angeles" Skyped in to ask a question about finding "a long-term relationship" and whether he'd have luck outside of the city, Stanger, 50, gave some more offensive advice.

"First of all, you're very handsome. I thought you were straight," she said. "That's a compliment!" (Cohen cocked his head quizzically and made a disgusted face at Stanger's seemingly bigoted remark.)
"Why is being straight a compliment?" he asked.
"Because he's not queeny," Stanger said. "Like you want a queen. Alright, I don't think so."
Stanger tweeted Monday: "It's true. L.A. guys [are] toughest nuts to crack to monogamy," then added: "Attention male gays: I support you and my comment on [Watch What Happens Live] was to an L.A. guy who can't find commitment."
Following intense criticsm, Stanger issued a statement to Us Weekly Monday: "I am so sorry. I did not mean to offend anyone with my comments last night on Watch What Happens Live."
A Bravo spokesperson added that the network "regrets the comments expressed by Patti Stanger on Watch What Happens Live last night. Her comments are not representative of the network's beliefs and opinions. We apologize for the offense it caused."

21This woman is a twit. Why do people give a damn about her opinions?
She seems to blurt out with no filter. Sometimes I agree with her, but these are clients that pay her well. I think the show has gone to her head. She has gotten worse over time. Although I think they edit for the shock value. I find myself watching the show and I normally don't care for the reality stuff. I think the plastic surgery was a huge mistake. She looks like a woman that had plastic surgery. Maybe it will blend over time. As far as her statement generalizing gays.. typical Patti. No filter.
Why the puke rolling out of this biotch's mouth is a surprise to anyone is a mystery. She's been classless all along.
Not sure when it became a requirement to approve and sing praises of a lifestyle one may or may not agree with. I can't really see where her statements are all THAT offensive. Do I agree with her? Not really. Am I mad at her? lol...no. Everyone has a right to their own opinion, especially if people feel they can comment with their OWN opinions. Just saying.
When did everything in this world become so ridiculously pc? It's like everyone is forced to walk on egg shells as to never offend anyone? Patti had an opinion, she expressed it, whether you agree with it or not, it's her oppinion so accept that and leave the rest at the door. She's not saying that she hates a certain group of people or is saying that her opinion is right and you're wrong. It's HER opinion. People mock Christianity every day and yet somehow, that's not offensive or doesn't make you a bigot because you feel that way, but having an opinion about a group of people or sexual preferance does....freedom of speech, freedom of religion...get over yourselves America and get a grip.
what is wrong with Patti hating gays??? so liking and adoring gay people is the right to do???? For me gay people don't belong to both hell and heaven
It's really a shame that some (below) have such limited acceptance and understanding of things they can't comprehend that all they can do is name call and criticize AND THEN MENTION the Bible???!!! Jesus accepted all, not those just like him so maybe some reading needs to be done regarding that, LC. ~ As far as Patti's remarks, people come to her for advice regarding dating, for her experience. So she's of course going to speak her expertice. Whomever doesn't want her advice, can ask another or go it alone. Unlike LC (below) I don't believe Patti's intention was to offend anyone.
Unbelievable, ignorance meets stupidity, and this Coupon creature spitsout her dumb stereotypes. Move to Iran, they share your idiotic state of mind.
@ Ladee Coupon. take your GOD comments and shove them up your ass... your comment is just down right pathetic.....People don't chose to be gay as you put it, your obviously a moron...... go pray to god so he can supply you with a brain...
I have two words regarding this....Sodom & Gomorrah!!! When will these wicked people ever learn??? Also whats with gay guys acting and trying to be like women (walking, talking, etc) and lesbians try to be like guys (short butch hair, guy clothes, etc). All they need is extra testosterone or estrogen to fix who they are. Forcing everyone else to accept this is insane!!! We don't have murderer or child molester parades like they have gay parades and shove it down our throats! They are not born like this but chose to live against God and fall for their lustful desires. They are unable to reproduce for a reason. If they can not figure out the human male and female organs and how it is to be used then they even have more mental issues that once thought! lol "Love people, hate the sin" God can help and fix these people just like anything else if they pray and ask for it. But I don't feel sorry for them because they chose to be ridiculed, act like freaks, and force it upon the rest of the 99% of the straight population. All we can do is pray for them and hope they fix their wicked desires!!!
@ Jennifer Higgi It isn't special treatment, it is just not having to deal with rude ignorant people who are closed minded. That went beyond simple "making fun", she is convinced of untrue facts, so many she should open her eyes and really take a look because monogamous relationships are NOT only reserved for straight people.
Jennifer Higgi's -What special treatment? Respect is not a special treatment. Saying something Gay is offensive just like retarded is. And, your final brilliant thought that it is not OK to make fun of a gay person but OK to make fun of anyone else - is so absurd and based on no facts what so ever - Do you want people to think you are foolish?
it seems that gay people expect special treatment. It is now politically incorrect to say something or someone is "gay", just because celebrities are making a big deal of it. The double standard is it is not OK to make fun of a gay person, but it is always OK to make fun of anyone else. GET REAL!!
Obviously, the people who were offended have never watched her show. She makes sweeping generalizations about EVERYONE. It's so weird what people choose to get upset about and then let other more ridiculous offensive comments completely slide.
Frankly, I never heard of her.
Hats off too anyone who tells it like is about that choice...UNGODLY DESIRES! Patti BEBE you said whats on your heart and the TRUTH about that life style thats not BY DESIGN by any standard...Stick 2 ur GUNZ... we all do on this of the LIGHT.G.B.
I agree with Kimberly, I have a gay friend who has been with his partner for 21 years. This woman is totally rude. How can she comment on something that she obviously knows nothing about. She def gave her opinion, but she didn't have to be rude to the guys faces. I mean really that was unprofessional and uncalled for. What a bigot!! I sure would hate to hear her views on interracial relationships. People like this need to go back to whatever rock that they have been living under for the past 100 years.
Offensive? Not at all. She was talking about her experiences as a matchmaker, which although not perhaps appropriately representative, are, nonetheless her experiences. She has every right to express them, even though I can't see how the number of them represent a statistically representative sample. I heard nothing in her comments that suggested she didn't like gay or lesbian couples. I know that at least one of the senior production people has been in a lesbian relationship and Patti has an excellent relationship with her.
She's often out spoken, but that crossed a line and was just plain rude and insensitive. Shame on you Patti!!!
Why apologize, she does not have to like gays. Geez these days you cannot have an opinion or you get in trouble. She gave her opinion if they didn't like it then don't take the advice DUH.
