Long before she became a frontrunner on Dancing With the Stars, Kirstie Alley was an awkward 7th grade student at James R. Mead Junior High School in Wichita, Kansas.

"Oh my God! No wonder I never got laid!" an embarrassed Alley joked when Jay Leno presented her with a series of photos from her childhood last Thursday.

As for her less than stellar hairstyle? "My mother was mean. My mother said she didn't want me to have long hair because it was too thick and wavy, as opposed to really thin and straight. I was sort of forced to have this look."

Now 60, Alley tells she's never felt better about her appearance.

"Lots of weight's dropping off," she said at Petra Nemcova and Dmitry Chaplin's Tsunami Relief party Monday. "That's a good thing."

And she plans to keep it up, too. "I'm not going to whittle my ass down with all this hard work and then do nothing!"
