Who Is Charles? Pretty Little Liars Fans Freak Out Over Finale Reveal

Ashley Benson, Lucy Hale, Shay Mitchell and Troian Bellisario
Pretty Little Liars fans were freaked out over the March 24 finale's shocking reveal of "A."

Um, WHAT?! Fans of ABC Family's Pretty Little Liars have waited patiently for five seasons for creators to reveal the identity of the illusive "A" character tormenting Aria (Lucy Hale), Hanna (Ashley Benson), Spencer (Troian Bellisario), and Emily (Shay Mitchell), and on March 24, they finally got their answer — sort of.

SPOILERS AHEAD:

During an intense hour that featured the PLL gang (in prison chic orange) trapped in a manic dollhouse controlled by their biggest enemy. While there were shocking revelations revealed (Mona's alive – and blonde! Spencer's parents know about "A"!) it was the buildup to the big announcement that had fans on edge.

Encouraging viewers to tweet their thoughts on the finale episode, ABC Family and series creator I. Marlene King were inundated with irate messages from fans who wanted more answers. (Long story short: "A" was revealed to be Charles DiLaurentis, but his name was the only detail provided. No face, no backstory.)

Some viewers channeled Spencer and tried to crack the Charles riddle late Tuesday night. Could he be Jason's (Drew Van Acker) long-lost twin? What about his connection to Andrew Campbell (Brandon W. Jones)?

After PLL's episode aired on the West Coast, King hosted a Twitter Q&A — but left lots to the imagination. Or, at least until June, when season 6 picks up. "You will have to wait for it. But this Big A story will be history," she wrote. "You will know the answers to every big A question I can think of by the end of the summer."
