Princess Diaries 3 May Be in the Works, Heather Matarazzo Sort of Confirms

Princess Diaries 3 is reportedly in the works -- see what former star Heather Matarazzo, aka Lilly Moscovitz, is saying about the possibility!

UPDATE: A source tells Us Weekly that a movie is not happening — for now. “There is nothing in development at the moment for Princess Diaries 3,” the insider tells Us. “It’s not moving forward now.”

Original Story: Should we break out the M&M’s pizza!? Mia Thermopolis and Queen Clarisse Renaldi may be returning to the big screen — all the way from Genovia! On Tuesday, June 16, tantalizing rumors began to swirl that a Princess Diaries 3 is in the works. A third installment has yet to be officially confirmed, but that didn’t stop star Heather Matarazzo from stirring the pot via Twitter.

The 32-year-old actress, who played Anne Hathaway’s BFF Lilly Moscovitz in the franchise, retweeted a story about the possible new film. “Well here is some good news for #PrincessDiaries fans,” she wrote. 

When asked if she’s just as close to the cast as she is to Hathaway, she added: “I’ve never had a relationship with a cast, but support Annie’s decision to keep in touch with any plaster she wants.”

She also gushed about working with Julie Andrews. “It wasn’t phenomenal, it was Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!!!!!!” she boasted, referencing Andrews’ 1964 classic Mary Poppins.

The Princess Diaries premiered in 2001, and was followed by its sequel, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, in 2004.

Back in 2012, Oscar winner Hathaway told Glamour magazine that departing from her good girl character Mia was hard to do. “Of course, after Princess Diaries, I was labeled a good girl, and for the first eight years of my career I had to fight to get any other kind of role. But I like fighting for a job, actually,” she said at the time. “Once you get it, you feel like you’ve emerged victorious from the scrap and you’re like, ‘Okay, this one’s mine. Did it. Done.'”
