‘The Real Housewives of Orange County’ Recap: Shannon Beador Gets Marriage Stunner, Heather Dubrow Is Done With Kelly Dodd

Is it too late now to say sorry? And does Kelly Dodd have it in her to face her anger problems and overcome them? That was a big question throughout The Real Housewives of Orange County‘s Monday, August 22, episode, since Kelly’s temper and dirty mouth totally derailed the party being held in honor of her friend Meghan King Edmonds in last week’s episode. Kelly wasn’t the only one facing inner demons this week, either. Her nemesis, Shannon Beador, was confronted by her husband’s cheating once again, but this time in a very new way. Between Shannon’s husband and Kelly, everyone was making amends this episode, but was it too little, too late?

Boys Will Be Boys, and Meghan’s Embryos Will Be Mostly Girls

The episode opened with Meghan walking into one of her final IVF appointments. Even though the party in honor of her impending pregnancy was totally destroyed by Kelly just the night before, Meghan was focused and ready to get inseminated — but her excitement was short-lived. Out of the 17 eggs retrieved, she only had four embryos to choose from. Just one was a boy, which was what she and husband Jimmy Edmonds wanted most. Even worse, the male embryo had the worst chance of implantation out of all four, according to the doctor.

The decision was a difficult one. Jimmy was disappointed, but Meghan chose to have the strongest female embryo and the male embryo implanted, just to see if it could work.

Elsewhere, Heather Dubrow took her daughter to a cute little store where kids can make their own books! While her daughter worked on her masterpiece, Heather spoke to Tamra Judge, who happened to turn up at the build-a-book place. (The producers just don’t get enough credit for staging these conversations in the most unexpected settings, if you ask Us.)

Heather, who broke down in tears after the party, told Tamra she was “exhausted” and didn’t want to see Kelly at the blonde’s upcoming get-together.

Party Foul

Speaking of Kelly (and everyone certainly was), she showed up to Meghan’s house with a present. As someone who went through IVF herself, she was there to support her friend, but she was also there to take ownership of her behavior.

“I went from zero to 100. I was wrong,” she said.

Meghan hit her with some tough love, telling her she acted “literally psychotic,” and was so worried about protecting her reputation that she destroyed it further. Kelly started to cry as Meghan said, “I was honest-to-God embarrassed to be your friend at that moment.”

They has a long talk that ended with Meghan advising her to start trying to keep her anger under control.

Shannon and her husband know a thing or two about “tough love,” too, but it has a very different definition for them in the wake of David Beador’s cheating and Shannon’s decision to stay with him and work through their problems. Elsewhere in the O.C., Shannon was enjoying her birthday when her once-philandering husband called.

“You need to pack your suitcase and be out of the house in 20 minutes,” he told her after saying he had some birthday surprises in store. Shannon, makeup-free and wearing a pair of black leggings, shrieked, “Are you kidding me?!” She was so excited to spend a “drama-free” birthday with her husband.

In the next scene, Tamra, Meghan, Heather and their husbands got on a bus with tinted windows and headed to the secret party David was throwing for Shannon at the hotel where they got married. He planned a great surprise!

David did not invite Vicki Gunvalson and Kelly to the party, so the two women hung out by themselves. They downed martinis and talked about the best tactics for dealing with the other Housewives, who, in Vicki’s words, “do not forget a thing.” The OG Housewife said she considered herself a mentor, and Kelly agreed, asking her for advice.

Meanwhile, Shannon’s party was going on just fine without them. David kept Shannon in their hotel room until all the surprise guests arrived, and then he brought her into the party for the big reveal. She teared up when she saw all of her friends, but that was nothing compared to what was coming next.

David led her away from her friends and back to their room. While they were away, the party guests sneaked out to the courtyard and sat down in some chairs. The Beadors’ kids were even brought in! Then David took Shannon back out of the room, brought her to the courtyard, and asked her if they could renew their vows, which they did in front of all of their friends.

The pastor who led them in the renewal was the same one Shannon called the day she learned David was having an affair, and the minister smiled as he announced they were gathered in spite of the good, the bad and the ugly to celebrate true love.

“I love you with all my heart and all my soul, and I can’t wait to spend the next 50 years growing old with you,” David told his wife.

“It would have been easier to give up,” Shannon said to the camera later. “But I look at our three children, and they are what makes it all worth it.”

Finally, at dinner David told Shannon he had arranged for them to take a four-day trip to Cabo. They were leaving at noon the next day!
