Beautiful but brittle Toronto gynecologist Catherine (Julianne Moore) suspects her prof hubby (Liam Neeson) is cheating on her. So she comes up with the lame idea of hiring voluptuous call girl Chloe (Amanda Seyfried) to test him. The erotic flick doesn't work for many reasons: As a wealthy mom living in a glass house (literally!), Moore's character is so chilly she doesn't earn the audience's sympathy, and Neeson (who lost wife Natasha Richardson while shooting) seems utterly checked out, even when he's having a quickie. While the glossily directed remake of the 2003 French movie Nathalie has entertaining moments, the thriller mostly feels like it was updated just to get Catherine and Chloe's sex scene on film (they undress and bed each other in a hotel). It's more middle-aged voyeurism than edgy sexual suspense.
