Us Rating: ** 1/2

This entertaining (but convoluted) thriller stars Mel Gibson as a cop whose daughter gets shot on his doorstep. He assumes the bullet was meant for him until he finds a gun by her bed. Say this for Gibson: Despite thinning hair and deep worry lines (plus, yes, offscreen scandal), he remains a magnetic movie presence. (Warner, $29)
