Bloated and busy, the sequel underwhelms. This time around, 19th-century Brit detective Sherlock (the ever-charismatic Robert Downey Jr.) and his cohort Watson (Jude Law) match wits against a diabolical professor (Jared Harris). Sherlock's mental chess game intrigues, as do his disguises (he dresses as a bellhop in a key scene). Too bad director Guy Ritchie upends the old-school fun by including a barrage of overly stylized slow-mo fight sequences. Sherlock himself would deduce that this tired cinematic gimmick needs to go.
